Candles are not just a thing of the past, their uses have evolved from lighting devices to pleasure products. A rising trend exists in the use of decorative candles and scented candles. These products are favored especially during holidays and special occasions, or just for daily relaxation purposes. What goes into our coconut Soy Wax candles?
Of course, as the name suggests, these candles are made from Soy Wax. Why Soy Wax you may ask? Why not Soy Wax? Alternative materials used in industrial production of candles are namely Paraffin Wax, Bee Wax, and Coconut Wax. Each has its own unique benefits and drawbacks.
Paraffin Wax
Paraffin Wax is the most commonly used wax in industrial manufacturing. Made from petroleum, coal, or oil shale, paraffin wax is a byproduct of petroleum refining. Paraffin Wax Candles are cheap to make and have an aesthetic appearance. However, there is an increasing concern regarding the health effects of paraffin fumes. However, these claims have not been backed by sufficient notable evidence. The reduction in the demand for paraffin wax in recent years is due to rising concerns regarding their sustainability.
Bee Wax
Produced from honey bees of the genus Apis, this type of wax is more natural but less sustainable. By harvesting the bee wax, you weaken the immunity of the beehive making them more susceptible to illnesses. So this practice needs to be more regulated resulting in a limited input of bee wax for the candle industry.
Coconut Wax
This type of wax is made from cold pressed coconut meat or a mixture of coconut oil and soy wax. Cold-pressed coconut wax has comparatively inferior burn quality as compared to other types of wax. However, they are natural and are a beneficial part of the coconut industry which helps utilize most parts of a coconut. Coconut wax candles produce less soot and are comparatively less harmful to the environment.
Soy Wax
Soy Wax is made from soybean oil through the process of full hydrogenation. Soy Wax has a lower melting point compared to other types of wax. The wax is one of the most sustainable types and produces very little soot. However, Soy Wax is softer than other types of wax and is mostly used to make container candles. Additional drawback of this type of wax is its lack of ability to contain fragrances. Soy Wax Candles wholesale usually have milder fragrances than paraffin blend ones.
How we make our Coconut Soy Wax Candles
At Simple Decor, our commitment to sustainability leads us to favoring Soy Wax as a base for our candles. 100% Soy Wax Candles or Soy Wax blends is more sustainable than other blends while still maintaining the functionality and aesthetics of the candles.
We offer two options for our clients, a 100% Soy Wax option and a Soy – Paraffin option at a ratio of 9:1. This minimal usage of paraffin aims to help with the structural integrity of the candles while not producing excess harmful chemicals. Our wax blend complies fully with the imports requirements of Europe and the US.
Our Soy Wax Candles uses coconut bowls from coconut farms in Vietnam. The coconuts are collected, sorted and the meat is extracted for consumption. After which, the coconut shells will be sanded to form coconut bowls. These bowls are then put through a quality control process to ensure they meet our requirements. The bowls are then filled with homemade Soy Wax and left to cool. At Simple Decor, we try to keep our products as “simple” and natural as they can be. The candles are unscented with no additional chemicals.
Scented Coconut Soy Wax Candles
In Addition to the natural Coconut Soy Wax candles, we do offer colored and scented variations as well. For the fragrant Soy Wax Coconut Candles, we add essential oils in the cooking process and food coloring (if required) to ensure no harmful chemicals are present when burnt. These aspects of the wholesale coconut candles can be customized to meet our clients’ demands.
